Oct. 16, 2014: To inspire classroom ingenuity, the Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 annually awards grants to teachers who have a good idea with a solid plan, but lack the funding. This year, the Foundation will award $27,898 to 16 teachers and groups of teachers.

Oct. 6, 2014: Kids, parents and teachers will meet at the starting line of Lester School’s Fifth Annual “Running of the Leopards” 5K Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, Oct. 12. The community event, sponsored by the Lester PTA, celebrates the benefits of healthy activities with students and their families and raises money for Lester PTA programs.
Oct. 2, 2014: Downers Grove School District 58 will hold a series of free, monthly preschool screenings to help parents identify and address potential developmental delays in children ages 3-5. The next screening takes place the morning of Monday, Oct. 27 at Henry Puffer School, 2220 Haddow Ave. Parents may make an appointment by calling 630-719-5800.
District 58 schools within a one-mile radius of today's active gas leak all will dismiss students on time and as usual, and after-school activities will still take place. The Village of Downers Grove reports that the gas leak is being monitored, and it is safe to go outdoors.
The Village of Downers Grove reports an active gas leak just south of Main and 63rd streets. Everyone within a one-mile radius is asked to stay indoors at this time.
A proposed bill called Senate Bill 16 has been created to change the way we fund public education in Illinois. As proposed, this bill will have a direct and negative impact on District 58, District 99 and all but one school district in DuPage County.
